Conclusion: Future of Intel

Based on the survey results, Intel's brand image to consumers is fairly similar to its actual performance. By generalizing these results to the entire brand user population, we can safely assume that Intel's users have a good level of attachment to the brand.

While it is no surprise that most respondents view Intel as a reliable, intelligent and responsible brand, it is very encouraging to note that most respondents also have a very close relationship with Intel - 37% chose close friend and 41% chose colleague. This means that most people have relationships with Intel that are "Committed partnerships" and above. This is a testament to the unwavering quality with which they have served the market during the last few decades. This is further confirmed by the fact that 0% of respondents felt that Intel's technical performance is subpar or lower.

That being said, it is not all a bed of roses for Intel moving forward. The respondents (who represent the market) have also confirmed that Intel has a weak presence in miscellaneous electronic markets other than servers, desktops and laptops. Particularly, Intel ranked weak in smart phones - a market Intel has missed out on. However, despite Intel's weak presence in the smart phone market, many respondents (above 40%) indicated that they would have preferred Intel microprocessors in their smart phones. As such, our team feels that this market could be still worth Intel's time although they were really late going into this market.

Moving forward, perhaps what is needed is a holistic approach by Intel in approaching its users. As computing technology lends itself to more and more applications, and people, like our survey results indicate also expect as such, Intel should see its products integrated into various kinds of applications in the future, including robot servants and prosthetic limbs. To be able to link these myriad of applications together in an Internet of Things (IOT) should be Intel’s next challenge.

Intel has some work to do in achieving this goal as the final part of our survey indicates. While most consumers are optimistic about Intel’s future (78%), awareness of the IOT and Intel’s role in this future is largely lacking amongst our 82 survey respondents (53%).
